Description

0W: Indicates the viscosity of the oil at cold temperatures. The number 0 is a measure of viscosity at low temperatures, and “W” stands for Winter. This means that the oil has an appropriate viscosity that allows it to flow easily in cold weather, helping to start the engine easily in cold conditions.

20: Indicates the viscosity of the oil at high temperatures (100 degrees Celsius). The number 20 is a measure of viscosity at normal operating temperatures, meaning the oil maintains its viscosity and provides adequate protection for the engine at high temperatures.

SYNT: Indicates that the oil is entirely synthetic, meaning it is made from chemical components designed to enhance performance and protection compared to conventional oils.

SAE: The Society of Automotive Engineers, which is the organization that sets the standards for oil viscosity.

Dexos1 (G1): A standard introduced in 2010 for oils used in gasoline engines. This standard provides excellent low- and high-temperature performance, improves fuel economy, and protects the engine from corrosion and deposits.

Dexos1 Gen 2 (G2): This is the updated version of Dexos1 and was introduced in 2015. This standard provides additional improvements over the first standard, including better protection against oxidation, reduced deposits, improved fuel consumption, and enhanced engine protection in extreme operating conditions.

These standards are intended to ensure the use of high-quality motor oils in GM vehicles, helping to extend engine life and optimize engine performance

API SP: Indicates the performance standard set by the American Petroleum Institute (API). “SP” is the latest standard for motor oils, providing:

  • Enhanced protection against wear.
  • Reduced deposits and oxidation.
  • Longer maintenance of viscosity.
  • Better protection at high temperatures.
  • Improved protection for engines using emission control systems.

ILSAC GF-6A : is a specification developed by the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) for engine oils. It sets forth requirements and performance standards that engine oils must meet to be approved for use in modern gasoline engines. GF-6A includes criteria related to engine protection, fuel efficiency, emission system compatibility, and compatibility with engine components. Oils meeting this specification are designed to provide enhanced performance and protection for modern gasoline engines.
